About the Collection

This digital collection details some experiences of the Miniatt family in the mid 1900’s. The collection contains records from the lives of Edmond L. and Bonnie Jo Miniatt, and includes some of their friends and family as well. Both Edmond and Bonnie served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War.

In this collection you will find images from Edmond’s experiences in the military, including army life in the U.S., as well as in Korea and Japan. While there is a video of three military portraits taken of Bonnie, most of the images relating to her and Edmond’s family are simply scenes of rural life in Wisconsin in the 1950’s. As a snapshot of life around the 1950’s, the materials of this collection provide an interesting perspective into military and rural life, using the records of one family.

About the Project

The materials were compiled by one graduate student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee for the final project in the Digital Libraries class. The photos were scanned and saved in jpeg format, then uploaded to CONTENTdm. There is one video and one audio recording, each provided in two different formats for accessability. Descriptive metadata was created and applied to each item in this collection and attention was paid in customizing the interface design.
